IIT and IIIT latest notification on no fee hike for the academic period 2020-21

IITs & IIITs latest notification on no tuition fee hike for 2020-21

IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and IIITs (Indian Institute of Information technology) released a notification regarding that there will be no increase in fees for the current FY 2020-21. This initiative came in the view of recent COVID-19 issues across the country. Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said in New Delhi on Sunday that ” no change in tuition fees hike for the academic year 2020-21 from both IIT and IIIT would be made”.

The news came as a relief to students, and their families who have been struggling during these unavoidable circumstances. 

The Minister said that “After consultation with the chairman of the standing committee of the IIT Council and directors of IITs, it has been decided that these institutes will not increase the tuition fee for the academic year 2020-21 for any course”. This step was taken after both agreeing on the same grounds.

A move for the benefit

Earlier, on sunday IIT-Delhi released a notification to not increase the fees for its postgraduate courses. The current notification by Human Resource Development has made a further statement to this notification. According to it, all the 23 IITs will follow the same fee structure and will not have any hike in their tuition fees for the academic year 2020-21.

For the undergraduate courses, the IIT council and HRD minister jointly decides on the fee structure. Individual IITs decide the fee structure for courses like M.Tech and MBA before the commencement of the academic session in June-July every year.

IIIT fee strcuture process

Generally, IIITs or triple IITs, implement a 10% hike on tuition fees every year on their undergraduate courses. But this year, on the request of HRD, they too have decided to go with the decision of no tuition fee hike for undergraduate courses and other courses as well for the academic year 2020-21. 

As per the government official interview, the step will benefit the student community as a whole. The premier institutes (IIT and IIIT) must at this time join hands in these tiring times. People of every sector are financially hit but this pandemic and it becomes the responsibility of institutions of this stature to come forward.
