Delta Plus Varient: Scientists of North Carolina University working on universal vaccine Covid-19

Universal vaccine is in progress by North Carolina University on different varients

North Carolina University America: Scientists have developed a universal vaccine that protected mice not just against COVID-19 but also other coronaviruses while triggering the immune system to fight off a dangerous variant.

While no one knows which virus may cause the next outbreak, researchers from the University of North Carolina (UNC) in the US noted that coronaviruses remain a threat after causing the SARS outbreak in 2003 and the global COVID-19 pandemic.

To prevent a future coronavirus pandemic, the team designed the vaccine to provide protection from the current SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and a group of coronaviruses known to make the jump from animals to humans.

The work is in progress of making a universal vaccine which is capable of countering on 90% of world’s variant. These days the trial is in progress on mice which are affected by different kinds of variant of covid-19 which is possibly successful. How the scientist says said that from next year a human trial has been started for universal vaccine.

What is Delta Plus Variant?

The Delta Plus variant, also known as AY.1 variant is a mutated erosion of B.1.717.2 strain, which the WHO named delta. The strain was responsible for the spread of the second wave of COVID-19 infections in India. Like delta, the Delta Plus variant has a spike protein region of the RNA virus that makes it potentially more transmissible. The spike protein helps the virus enter the human cells and infect them. The mutation is associated with immune escape which makes the virus less influenced by any form of drug therapy. In india first Maharashtra found 21 patients of delta Varient after which a flood of second wave of Corona hits India’s different parts badly. Death rate is more than recovery rate. It was more dengerous than first wave.

Cause of Concern For Delta Plus Variant

As the second wave of the virus is declining in India, many states have resumed operations by easing the lockdown restrictions. This may lead to the virus getting transmitted rapidly.

It is too early to say if the delta plus variant can escape the effect of the vaccine or not, as the cases reported are low, as well as there is no indication of how severe the disease is. Enough studies are to be conducted to find if the variant shows any significant level of immune escape. According to the health experts, the Delta variant may lead to a possible third wave. But with delta being the dominant variant in India, the prevalence of Delta Plus variant is still low. But considering the Delta variant also had low prevalence and it spread rapidly, possible measures should be taken to curb the spread of Delta Plus variant as soon as possible.
